SCTP Team Angels Camp Trapshooting Team Shot Their Way to the Nationals!
SCTP Team Angels Camp trapshooting team shot their way to the National trapshooting championship finals to be held Aug 6 & 7 in Sparta, IL. Valley Springs shooters Spencer Cummings and Scott Rader, Angels Camp...

shooters Cody Chew and John Winings and Arnold shooter Travis Glass came in third place in the Junior Varsity division at the State Scholastic Clay Target Program competition held this past Saturday in Kingsburg, CA and now will move on to the Nationals.
Each member of the squad had 200 targets to shoot with Travis Glass leading the way hitting 197 out of his 200 and also shooting his first 100 straight. John Winings and Cody Chew each shot a 193 with Cody having his first straight 75, Spencer Cummings shot a 189 and Scott Rader shot a 185, giving the squad an impressive total of 957 targets hit of their 1000. All members of the squad shot at least 1 straight 25 and had sixteen straight 25’s between the five of them.
When the first round of shooting was complete the squad had the best score out of all of the divisions with a 490 out of 500, and after the second round was complete they ended in a tie for second place in the JV division and finishing 3rd after a shoot off. The difference between 1st and 2nd place was only one target. This is only the second time a squad from Angels Camp has placed at state, the first time was in 2005 with a 3rd place win in the senior novice division and that squad went on to Nationals and took 4th place.
Travis Glass also ended up in a tie for 2nd place in the individual competition and after a shoot off placed 3rd out of 143 shooters in the JV division. It was also great to see kids like Sarah Lamb shoot her personal best, 24 out of 25 and Devon Harlon had his 1st ever 25 straight and Justin Fisher with his 1st 50 straight. Jessica Schmedes shot her 1st 25 at practice three days before and showed she could do it again by hitting another one at the competition while also shooting her best of 187.
Team Angels had twenty six members make it to the shoot and out of those twenty six, twelve of them shot a straight 25 or more totaling 29 perfect rounds, the shooters who accomplished this where Vincent Lavaroni (4), Clayton Pebley (2), Ryan Harper (2), Jessica Schemdes (1), Travis Glass (6), Cody Chew (4), John Winings (4), Spencer Cummings (1), Scott Rader (1), Devon Harlon (1), Justin Fischer (1) and Justin Fisher (2).
Team scores for State are Varsity Shooters: Vincent Lavaroni (195), Clayton Pebley (194), Ryan Harper (188), Jessica Schmedes (187), Will Kelville (185), Junior Varsity Shooters; Travis Glass (197), Cody Chew (193), John Winings (193), Spencer Cummings (189), Scott Rader (185), Sarah Lamb (158), Justin Fischer (171), Devon Harlon (182), Sarah Kirkman (186), Mike Limas (182) Intermediate Shooters; Justin Fisher (186), Colton Johnson (136), Clay Kruse (175), Wyatt Walraven (109), Austin Greenough (173), Jacob Dillashaw (136), Camden Irish (164), Colton Atkinson (159), Casey McWhirt (160) and Rookie Shooter Carson Atkinson (79/100)
At this time I would also like to add that Travis, Spencer, Cody, John and Scott now have six weeks to raise money needed to get to Nationals. We are hoping to find some local sponsors who want to help these kids on their way to nationwide recognition. They are currently putting together various fund-raising activities, but have such a short time to raise the money that they are accepting donations. Please contact Nicole Cummings, Team Public Information Officer at 209-786-3105, or coaches Van Rader at 209-786-2418 and John Winings at 209-785-9326 to take part in this defining moment for these boys. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Thank you also to Angels Gun Club and its members for your support of the Angels Camp Scholastic Team, without you this sport would not be possible for these kids, it means a lot to them.
