IT’S A ‘FOLLIES HOLIDAY’ IN 2012

(Murphys, CA) – After seven years of mounting one of the most labor intensive productions imaginable, the Calaveras Mentoring Foundation is announcing a “Follies Holiday” for 2012 to give the popular and beloved countywide event a little rest...

The Calaveras Follies has grown into a signature event in Calaveras County with its festive gala, sumptuous buffet, and elegant raffle all setting the stage for an outrageous lip-synched musical revue starring community celebrities. The event has netted over $150,000 for youth mentoring while bringing together hundreds of county residents to create a unique, ambitious and memorable show each year. It was produced for six years by Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program volunteers and partners Frogtown and Murphys Creek Theater, and taken over last year by the Calaveras Mentoring Foundation with continued support from Frogtown.

“We’re giving everyone a vacation this year,” said Peggy Lucas, foundation president, “but we plan to keep the generous Follies spirit alive.” We will be in touch with all our wonderful sponsors, cast members and volunteers with some fun ideas for how to “spend” this vacation while we explore some new avenues for funding to grow the youth mentoring program.

For those who simply cannot live without the Follies (and we know you are out there), there is talk of a reunion/party in 2012 with a broadcast of some of the most memorable performances. Contact Tim Hildabrand at info@calaverasfollies.com to support this effort.

DVDs of all past Calaveras Follies, produced by HStar, Inc. are always available at the Follies website, www.calaverasfollies.com or by calling (209) 728-1691. Proceeds from DVD sales benefit the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program.

The Calaveras Mentoring Foundation is a new 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the community and developing volunteer and financial support for youth mentoring in Calaveras County. The Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program is a countywide program administered by the Calaveras County Office of Education and funded by grants and donations. The program is always actively recruiting mentors for local youth.
