BACKGROUND:
As you probably know, Twain Harte was hit with the Winter Storms of 2010-11 in a way that hurt the local businesses immensely – Thanksgiving Week was without power, turkey dinners were cancelled, the snow was so high and unplowed for days. President’s Day Weekend kicked off with heavy snow the Thursday prior to the weekend. Residents flew to lower ground (Sonora), tourists, vacation home owners couldn’t get up there and even it they did, there was no power to be had.
Zack Gold, a Hollywood actor who calls Twain Harte his second home, and Judy and Roger Haughton, his “second parents”, thought of this inaugural event to hopefully extend the summer by one week for the business community and bring a variety of visitors to the town. Zack worked hard to obtain films for submission, he received over 200 submissions! From that, he and his committee down South, selected a variety of feature length, documentary, shorts, and student-made films for this Film Festival. The poster explains the events, the Programming Guide describes the films (subject to minor changes). If you visit the website, www.filmfesttwainharte.com, you will get a lot of information about the event, its sponsors, its benificiaries, and ticket packages, something for every budget.
Please note – the venues in Twain Harte have been given various names – e.g. Mark Twain Theatre is not actually a theatre, it will be the location of our gala dinner/world premiere of “Black Velvet”, but moves to the Twain Harte Golf Course for the remainder of the festival.
