Murphys Doctor to Keynote Head Start Conference in Modesto

Modesto, CA...Dr. Ryan Thompson, the founder of the Mind Matters Clinic in Murphys, will be the keynote speaker at a regional Head Start conference to be held August 25-26 at the Martin G. Petersen Event Center in Modesto. His topic will be “Autism: A Personal Journey as Parent and Physician”. He will deliver the talk at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, August 25th...

Thompson, who is the clinic’s CEO and Medical Director, is highly qualified to speak on this subject since he and his wife Kim have an autistic son. It was out of frustration with the absence of treatment centers in the Murphys area, or the surrounding three Mother Lode counties, that Mind Matters was created. It is a non-profit multidisciplinary center designed to meet the needs of families struggling with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD/ADD), and Learning Disabilities.

With a series of innovative and unique programs it has achieved remarkable results. One success story is that the Thompson’s son has graduated from high school and is attending college.

Presented by the Stanislaus County Office of Education, the conference will be attended by some 350 Head Start teachers, family service workers, and staff.

In addition to his address, Thompson will be conducting a workshop at 1 p.m. on “Autism: What Do We Know?” He will cover Autism Spectrum Disorders, what they are and what they look like, and will suggest strategies for home and school.

Mind Matters Clinic is located at 150 Big Trees Road in the historic Gold Rush town of Murphys.
