Ione, CA.....Music that spans ragtime, classical, polkas, marches, swing and big band, jazz, and popular standards, even Disney movies will be featured at the AmadorArts August 5th TGIF free concert in Ione at the Castle Oaks Golf Club. Sierra Sax & Brass Quartet was formed by musicians, all living in Amador, in 2009 as an affiliate to the Central Coast Saxophone Quartet, which still performs in the Bay Area and will be making its 17th annual appearance at the Gilroy Garlic Festival.....
Sierra Sax & Brass features some of the area’s top players: Barry Duncan, soprano sax; Hank King, alto sax; Jeff Chambers, flugelhorn; Steve Chambers, baritone sax and leader. Chambers, founder and leader, has been a professional musician since 1974 and he currently leads a 19-piece Bay Area big band, the 12-piece Speakeazy Jazz Orchestra.
Bring lawn chairs and picnics, but no outside beverages to this concert. Castle Oaks will have available both food and drinks. From downtown Ione, drive west on Highway 104, turn left onto Castle Oaks Drive and head for the Clubhouse. The next free TGIF concert will be August 12, in Detert Park, Jackson, featuring Tess and Hip Trash. Visit www.amadorarts.org.
