Jenny's Strawberry Lemonade!~From Jenny Baxter
Welcome Readers! Strawberry season has finally arrived! We have had to tolerate the taste of under ripe reddish- green strawberries for several months. Now it is time for our mouths to indulge in the sugar sweet flavor of field grown, sun ripened and hand picked luscious strawberries from California...
The most flavorful strawberries I have ever eaten come from a strawberry farm on the corner of Hwy 12 and Hwy.88 near the town of Clements. The farm was previously owned and operated by a Vietnamese family. Now the little blue lean-to has become a large tin barn structure, no longer owned by the Vietnamese family, and it is known as Clements Ridge.
As I thumbed through my repertoire of strawberry recipes, I was having a difficult time deciding which one to share with you. I thought I would just take a break and make a pitcher of strawberry lemonade to enjoy as I worked in my yard. Then it hit me! I would distribute this recipe to you. Not only is this drink very refreshing, but also versatile. You can add a little vodka to it and make a great summer beverage for parties or to take pleasure in as you grill outdoors, plant your garden, or clean out your garage....
Jenny’s Strawberry Lemonade
4 lemons
¾ - 1 cup sugar
Cup pureed strawberries
Water
Mint leaves
Sliced strawberries
Roll the lemons on a flat surface until soft and pliable. Cut the lemons in half and juice. Pour the juice into a pitcher. Add the sugar to suit your palate. Then add the puree and stir. Fill the pitcher with ice cold water and stir again to combine all the ingredients. Fill a tall glass with ice and pour in the lemonade. Garnish with a mint leaf and a sliced strawberry.
OPTIONAL- Add a shot of cold vodka to each glass and then the lemonade.
For an attractive presentation wet the rim of the glass with lemon juice first and press the rim in some sugar. Fill the glass as instructed above.
Well, it’s thyme to go.
