AAUW Home Tour & Art Show December 3-4, 2010
The Sonora Branch of AAUW will hold its 44th Annual Home Tour & Art Show the first weekend of December. Proceeds from this fundraiser provide scholarships for local women and girls. This year the traditional Home Tour has expanded to a two-day event, featuring.....
• Fine Art Show Preview and Wine Tasting in the Chapel at the Union Hill Inn, 21645 Parrotts Ferry Road near Columbia, on Friday, December 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. Meet the artists, enjoy wines from Mt. Brow Winery, and music by Peg Reza’s “Blue Shoes,” a Columbia musical group described as “a delightful combination of Vaudeville, Tin Pan Alley, ragtime, blues and sometimes calypso.
More than 40 artists from Tuolumne and Calaveras counties will be participating in the Fine Art Show this year, our second annual. The two-day juried event will feature watercolor, oil and acrylic, stained and etched glass, sculptures, and jewelry art work. All art is available for sale and a percentage goes to AAUW for this fundraiser.
$5 tickets for the Friday evening event may be purchased at the door, or along with your Home Tour ticket.
• A tour of three beautiful Sonora homes and the Union Hill Inn, Fine Art Show and Sale, and Holiday Boutique and Basket Raffle, all on Saturday, December 4, from 12 noon to 4:30 p.m.
The three homes on tour this year, all beautifully decorated, include the Karen and Victor Child ranch-style home on almost four acres near Jamestown, with plenty of room for their horses. The Guy Turner home in Sonora is a compound on three acres, featuring a guest house, and companion-style dog house, and outside entertaining area with a deck and pool. The Bobbie and Jeff Smith home in Sonora is reminiscent of the French countryside, with a courtyard and koi pond, dream kitchen with a copper ceiling, and filled with a variety of artwork. An historic Gold Country inn, the Union Hill Inn near Columbia, is also on the tour, featuring the Great Room, luxuriously decorated for Christmas, and four guest suites in the main house, and several guest cottages scattered around the charming grounds.
The Fine Art Show is in the Chapel at Union Hill Inn, and features watercolor, oil and acrylic, stained and etched glass, sculptures, and jewelry art work. All art is available for sale. AAUW’s traditional Holiday Boutique and Basket Raffle is in the Hilltop Room at the inn. Refreshments (tea, coffee and homemade cookies) will be provided, along with opportunities to purchase handcrafted items and homemade baked goods made by members of the Sonora branch, all suitable for gift giving. Bring your return address labels to make it easier to enter the basket raffle. The gorgeous theme baskets, donated by AAUW members, get more elaborate every year. Don’t forget to drop off your door prize ticket for a chance to win the beautiful centerpiece donated by Columbia Nursery that graces the tea table.
Tickets for the Saturday Home Tour, Boutique and Art Show are $20--available at Mountain Bookshop in the Junction Shopping Center in Sonora, or Columbia Candle & Soap Works in Columbia, or by calling 586-1322.
