In Living Memory of Denise Marjorie Pratt Garrett 1930~2010
Murphys Resident, Denise Marjorie Pratt Garrett died peacefully after a brave battle with leukemia on Friday, October 29, 2010. She was 80. A native of Piedmont, California, Mrs. Garrett was born September 26, 1930 and graduated from Piedmont High in 1948. She was married for 57 years to Gerry Wendell Garrett, who preceded her in death in 2009. ....
The Garretts retired to Murphys from Danville in 1994. Mrs. Garrett was devoted to her faith and active in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Murphys, serving in its Alter Society and Helping Hands organization. She was also a member of the Native Daughters Ruby Parlor #46 and an avid Master Gardner with the Calaveras County Garden Club. She won awards for flower arrangement competitions, and her favorite flower was the lavender rose.
Mrs. Garrett is survived by brother John Pratt of Murphys; three children, Robert Garrett (Carolyn) of Modesto, CA, Wendy Rose (late husband Ivan) of Pittsburg, CA, and Susan Salmela (Brian) of Gresham, OR; brother-in-law Donald Garrett (Patricia). Mrs. Garrett was a devoted and cherished grandmother to Patrick, Ryan, Hailee, Ivan (Van), and Jacob (deceased); and great grandmother to Cynthia, Marissa, and Madelyn. She was a loving aunt to Bill (Sherry), Terry (Mark), Steve (Laura), Tom (Kimberly), and Linda (Joe).
Denise Garrett will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her and her bright, cheerful smile. Please join her family at the regular evening Mass at St. Patrick’s Church in Murphys on Saturday, November 13, 2010 to honor her. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Helping Hands, PO Box 576, Angels Camp, CA 95222 or the Native Daughters of the Golden West (Ruby Parlor #46), P. O. Box 1874, Murphys, CA 95247. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
