Samuel James Wiens, 79, of Murphys, died peacefully on November 1, 2010, following complications of cardiac arrest. He was born to the late Jacob and Mary Wiens, on May 6, 1931, in Dallas, Oregon. Sam was a teacher in San Jose until his retirement in 1990. At that time Sam and his wife, Ruby, moved to Murphys where he has enjoyed being involved in many activities including serving at the Chapel in the Pines; participating in SIRS, Do Wooders, and Links Fellowship. ....

Sam is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruby; his daughters and sons, Cathy (Mark) Geiser; Ken (Janie) Wiens; Kimm (Alex Kiriako) Wiens; and Curtis (Lori) Wiens. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Nicole (Nate) Wilkinson, Allison Geiser, Bradley Geiser, Jeffrey Wiens, Kevin Wiens, Dan (Joyce) Buettner, Kayla Wiens, Eli Wiens, Molly Wiens; and one great grandchild, Evan Geiser-Hill. He is also survived by two brothers and many other relatives. Sam will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations go to Do Wooders or Chapel in the Pines Missions Program (both c/o Chapel in the Pines, P.O. Box 9, Arnold, CA 95223).

A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 8, 11:00 a.m., at Chapel in the Pines in Arnold, Ca.
