Suspicious Circumstances/Arrest in Jamestown
Jamestown, CA...Just before three o’clock this morning, Deputy Ben Christiansen noticed a vehicle parked in front of the coin operated car wash in Jamestown. Knowing the money changing machine at the car wash and the saw shop nearby are frequent targets for burglars, Christiansen pulled in behind the vehicle and made contact with the driver and a passenger. identification on them. After obtaining verbal identifications for both subjects, Christiansen ran them for warrants and was advised by dispatch that the driver, Paul Smith, age 43 of Ceres, had a felony warrant for failure to appear on a theft with priors charge. The passenger gave a false name but was later identified as Carlos Perez, age 34 of Ceres. A subsequent search of Smith revealed a small amount of methamphetamine. During a search of the vehicle, deputies found bolt cutters, wire cutters, one four foot long pry bar, a flashlight, pre-tied bandanas that can be pulled over the nose and mouth as a disguise, and three sets of rubber gloves, and some marijuana. Both subjects were booked at the county jail on charges of possession of controlled substances, possession of burglary tools, a felony warrant, and giving false information to a peace officer to avoid arrest.
