Calaveras County is Back to School ~By John Hamilton

Arnold, CA...Today was D-Day for many of the schools in the County. This year's crop of bright eyed, eager young scholars stormed the hallways as they headed back to school. Freshly scrubbed young faces area ready for another year of school. Several of our districts have been back to school for a couple of weeks already but this week is when we start feeling the drumbeat of the 2010-11 school. The sports schedules have been finalized and the all of the young athletes are ready to take the field in earnest...

We are blessed with great schools and dedicated teachers. It shows not only in our test scores but in the sense of community most of our schools share. Yes...budgets are tight and the financial belts are a notch or two shorter but this year should be another great year in Calaveras County

We stopped by Hazel Fisher Elementary in Arnold and the parking lot was filled past overflowing. Most of the parents were walking there children to their classes, taking last minute photos and even shedding a tear of two as the school year starts in earnest.
