Railtown 1897 Offers Lots to See & Do This Labor Day Weekend! Highlights Include Rides Behind Sierra No. 3 on September 4 & 5 Plus Special Small Scale Model Replicas in Operation All Three Days
Jamestown, CA...This Labor Day weekend, visitors to Railtown 1897 State Historic Park (SHP) will have lots to see and do with special activities planned that include scenic rides behind the newly restored Sierra No. 3 plus a chance to see more than a dozen small scale model steam trains in operation. For those interested in rides behind Sierra No. 3, the approximately one-hour excursion train rides depart at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, September 4 & 5. The rides include refreshments on board and a .....
photo stop where passengers can step off the train and take pictures as Sierra No. 3 does a visually exciting full-steam "run by." These memorable rides through the scenic Gold Country cost $24 for adults, $12 for youths ages 6-17 (children under five are free) and include Park admission. Advance tickets are available at www.railtown1897.org or by calling 916-445-5995.
And, for the third year in a row, the popular "On The Brink Live Steam Group" returns to display intricate small scale model replicas that run under steam produced by liquid fuel, just like their full-sized counterparts in the Roundhouse at Railtown 1897 SHP. To the delight of hobbyists near and far, the special small scale models will be on display all three days of the holiday weekend (Saturday through Monday, September 4, 5 & 6).
Regular park admission prices apply -- $5 for adults, $3 for children 6-17, and is free for children five and under. Guided tours are also available and are included free with paid admission or excursion train ticket. Also, visitors are encouraged to utilize picnic and barbecue areas that are available on a first come, first-served basis on the shaded lawn.
