THE CALAVERAS COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION HOSTS THE PARKS AND RECREATION SUMMIT.....A mission to garner consensus on the structure of the proposed Calaveras County Parks & Recreation District
San Andreas, CA....The Calaveras County Parks and Recreation Commission is inviting all parks and recreation providers to attend the first ever Summit on Parks and Recreation in Calaveras County. The event takes place at 6 pm on July 21, 2010 at the San Andreas Town Hall, 24 Church Hill Rd, San Andreas. The commission is in the process of developing a countywide Park and Recreation Master Plan. The comprehensive plan lays out the vision for serving the park and recreation needs of the communities in Calaveras County. Part of the plan details the formation of the Calaveras County Parks and Recreation District. It is expected that formation of the independent special district would be on the 2012 general election ballot.....
While the commission is still in the process of creating the district model, it would like to hear from local parks and recreation providers to see how this proposed district could serve them best. The currently proposed district would be a an independent special district with an anticipated budget that may be structured to offer existing providers grant writing services, insurance assistance, shared maintenance/labor services, facility improvements, and organizational help.
“We are looking at existing providers to help us finish the countywide district model,” states Commission Chair Mason Goodale.
Anyone who provides or fulfills a local need for parks and recreation is invited to attend. Those groups include park owners/operators, organized sports leagues, non-profits, developers, schools, existing special districts, and government agencies to name a few.
