Copperopolis Fire Protection District will NOT be seeking layoffs in their preliminary budget~by Charity Mannes

Copperopolis, CA..Board of Directors meeting held 9:00 am June 25, 2010, 370 Main St, Copperopolis.Bucking the current trend of layoffs and hour cuts to balance a budget, Copperopolis Fire Protection District has created a viable preliminary budget without any disruption in quality service to the district. Multiple variations of a budget had been crunched before reaching this preliminary budget. Each of the other possibilities were discarded due to potential layoffs included within the budget. “We have adequate funds on hand to avoid a cash flow issue” through December 2010 Cantrell stated....

Chief Cantrell applauded the Board for their “fiduciary responsibility to the tax payers of the district.” Pointing out that the board had the foresight to anticipate financial constraints on the horizon and “tightened the belts” prior to a financial emergency. An emergency being that of loss of jobs.

The current budget does not allow for increase in personnel, monies to be set aside for reserve/trust accounts, nor does it factor in unknown operating expenses. With this in mind Chief Cantrell feels it will be “critical to revisit” this preliminary budget to create a final budget due by October 1, 2010. Director John Maness moved to accept the preliminary budget and Director Steve Marks second. All in favor.
