A Sign Along the Way and Procession Carring Gavin's Family As It Ends It's Sad Journey In Arnold. If you have photos or video of yesterday you would like to share please email them to news@thepinetree.net. A short video is enclosed...

Law Enforcement, Neighbors and well wishers. Starting with a couple of hundred in Valley Springs the crowds and the display of colors and support continued to swell until it reached it's crescendo from Avery through Arnold.

It was hoped that the families would see that their sacrifices were not in vain and their community knew and cared about Gavin Brummund along with them. At this time plans for formal services have not been made public.

We will pass those along more details as they become available. It was truly an honor to be a resident of Calaveras County yesterday. On very short notice the community came together again in spectacular fashion when members of our community needed our support.

In the video below the procession as it reaches the end of it's journey in Arnold, followed by a few clips from Avery on up taken a few minutes before the procession reached home. Please remember the families in your thoughts and prayers as the impact of their loss becomes increasingly real in the days and weeks ahead.

"The Department of Defense announced the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. Lance Cpl. Gavin R. Brummund, 22, of Arnold, California, died June 10 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Gavin Brummund grew up in the very small town of Arnold, California. Gavin Brummond was born in Van Nuys, California, but grew up in Calaveras County where he played football and excelled at wrestling at Bret Harte High School. He graduated in 2006 and attended College of the Redwoods community college in Humboldt County for about a year before enlisting in the Marines.

Brummund was one of eight members of the Bret Harte High School Class of 2006 to enter the service together.

Lance Cpl. Brummond had already spent a tour in Iraq and had one year left on his commitment to the Marines. He was scheduled to finish his Afghanistan tour later this summer.

A team leader, Lance Cpl. Brummund was on patrol in Marjah when he stepped on an improvised explosive. He later died from his injures at the hospital.

Two years ago Gavin and his wife Michaela were married. The young couple lived together near Camp Lejuene in North Carolina, with their pets: two dogs, eight puppies and a cat"
