Columbia's Glorious 4th of July Celebration!
Columbia State Park, CA....Columbia State Historic Park is the setting for Columbia's Glorious Fourth of July Celebration--on Sunday, July 4th (naturally). If you've ever wanted to march in a parade, this is the best! Short and sweet, and shady, and fun! Decorate yourself, your group, your pets (under 120 pounds), your bicycle, or your vehicle (vintage 1960 or older), and join the noon parade. You might win a prize! Parade registration begins at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Fallon Theatre in Columbia, or call ......
209-536-1672 to pre-register. Following the parade, listen to the Great Mother Lode Brass & Reed Band concert, dance in the street, and try your skill at the many contests popular in the early days of Columbia. The kids will enjoy trying to climb the greased pole, hunting for a needle in the haystack, and participating in the bucket brigade. Other contests for kids and adults include nail pounding, watermelon and pie eating, cake walk, egg relay race and egg toss, and a five-way tug-of-war. The parade and concert are free, and entering a contest only costs a buck. Finally, to top off your day, a tri tip barbecue dinner will be served at 4:00 p.m. Barbecue tickets are $8.50 for adults and $5.50 for children under 10, and must be purchased early in the day--before they sell out.
Come early for the best parking, and bring lawn chairs for viewing the parade and concert. The Independence Day festivities, sponsored by the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, will begin with a flag raising and firing of the cannon by the Columbia Foot Dragoons at 11 a.m. For more information, call 209-536-1672 or visit www.columbiacalifornia.com.
