Umpqua Bank of Copperopolis Shows their Community Pride and Support for the Troops.~by Charity Maness
Umpqua Bank has a policy of commitment to excellence and community service through local involvement in community events, activities, and projects. With this in mind, store manager Iris Larson, recognized a need and found a way to help. With more and more of our local boys heading overseas in service of our country’s military, their need for basic supplies has become a must. Iris set up a bucket in the branch, with an article attached about a local Marine deployed to Afghanistan, in hopes that the community will help them with their collection of basic necessities for our troops. They are hoping for donations of (but not limited to): socks, hygiene products, protein bars, foot powder, water purification tablets, ......

beef jerky, deodorant, sunscreen, lip balm, pepto tablets, etc. All items can be dropped off at the Copperopolis branch during regular business hours until May 31, 2010. These items will be shipped to Marine troops in Afghanistan.
This sense of service to their community and pride is not limited to this one instance. Over the last few years Umpqua Bank employees have reached out to the community in many ways. They have set up banking stations at the local elementary school in a “learn to earn” program which “encourages children to learn to save.” Iris smiles when she recounts that some children “only deposit a penny” in their account, but she always rewards the children’s efforts with smiles, stickers, and encouragement. They have worked the See’s candy booth raising funds through Kiwanis for Area 12 on aging. They participate in the summer youth kids camp through parks and rec. And they plan on aiding this year with the library and the local food pantry.
If you would like to help, please feel free to call Iris at Copperopolis Umpqua Bank, 785-7008.
