Letter to the Editor~by Randy Metzger

Dear Editor,

"As the recently retired County Assessor, I am naturally interested in the upcoming election. During my 30-plus years in the Assessor’s Office, 10 as Assessor, I have gained considerable knowledge as to what type of a person it takes to successfully lead the office. That person is Leslie Davis. I was able to retire last year with peace of mind knowing that my Assistant Assessor Leslie was more than qualified to take the reins....

Leslie is the polar opposite of her sole opponent, who has no assessment or appraisal experience whatsoever. Leslie’s challenger did not earn a college degree, and is lacking the knowledge and experience necessary to effectively lead the Assessor’s Office. Without any qualifications to be Assessor, Leslie’s opponent has chosen to run a negative campaign, which has focused on making false accusations about Leslie and the Assessor’s Office.

In stark contrast to her opponent, Leslie is incredibly well-qualified to be the next Assessor of Calaveras County.

She has more than 20 years of assessment experience in all phases of the Assessor’s Office and earned a master’s degree in public administration. She is an advanced appraiser for property tax purposes and has a professional appraiser’s designation from the Appraisal Institute. Leslie is a gifted teacher, who has established staff training that far exceeds anything the Calaveras Assessor’s Office has had in the past. A perfect example of her leadership and foresight is when she authored a strategic plan for the Assessor’s Office well before the county had developed a strategic plan.

Leslie is one of the brightest individuals that I have ever met, and Calaveras County is blessed to have someone of her caliber running for public office. I strongly endorse her candidacy and, on June 8, I encourage you to vote for Leslie Davis to be your next Assessor.

Randy Metzger, retired Calaveras County Assessor"
