Arnold RIM Trail News
Dear Arnold Rim Trail supporters,Thanks to those who were available for our April 14th meeting in which we spent time sharing information about the trail, reviewed your input of November 2, 2009 which informed the selection of strategic goals that can help move the vision forward in 2010. The great news is that we have both monetary and people support for adding miles, permanent signage, trailhead kiosks and trail information this season. With a project of this magnitude we can always utilize more of both. The Prop 40 State Park Bond money, two years in limbo, finally made it to our county parks commission for disbursement to waiting contractors and the stimulus funds are already making it possible to break new .....
ground in the San Domingo canyon area as well as an ADA accessible segment of trail near White Pines. A crew of young adult workers from the California Conservation Corps will be working in our area for six months. These are not inmates but young people working at minimum wage and in some cases also completing their secondary education. They are well trained and extremely efficient in this work.
VOLUNTEER TRAIL WORK DAY INFO: As the squalls of El Nino persist, leaving the ground too wet to work, we are having to move our first volunteer trail work day of 2010 forward to Saturday, May 8. These volunteer trail days are loads of fun... if you haven't joined one yet, please consider doing so. There hasn't been a work day when we didn't have participants from each of the three groups who use the Arnold Rim Trail, the equestrian, hiking, and bicycling communities. Please meet at the US Forest Service Station in Hathaway Pines promptly at 8:30 a.m. After a brief safety orientation, we will caravan with Lonnie to the section of trail he has selected for that day's work. Bring layered work clothing as it may get warm as the day progresses. Also bring a hat, sunscreen, a water bottle and snack, and if you have a favorite garden tool for trimming brush or clearing paths, bring that too, (e.g. loppers, pruners, etc). Lonnie will also be providing trail work tools. We generally finish work by noon or 1 p.m. Children are welcome with adult supervision. In the unlikely event that we need to cancel the work day due to weather, we'll send another email. If you have questions about the trail work day, please call Warren Alford at 209-795-2672. The "reply-to email address" stevelauterbach@comcast.net for this message will find Steve in Nepal for the month of May, so Warren is your contact.
Also, please mark your calendars for September 11, 2010. This will be the day of our annual Arnold Rim Trail celebration day and once it again it will be coordinated with the Highway 4 Scenic Byway celebration day.
We hope you can join us on the ground and in our community meetings to make this the best and most fruitful year so far in the development of the Arnold Rim Trail.
