Letter to the Editor~by Cathy Mason

"The General Plan Town Hall Meeting...The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors went down a dark road Tuesday 4/20 and voted completely against the will of the people. Did they not have enough time to study Alternative D? All the other choices have serious shortcomings. They are embodiments of “Smart Growth” also known as “U.N. Agenda 21” with people stacked up in high-rises (high-density) and animals running free in proposed “open spaces” (vacated homes, ranches and farms?) (Google: Wildlands Project by Dr. Michael Coffman.) Alternative D maintains property rights and would be accepted by most taxpayers. So, why is it not on the table? .....

It reminds me of the dilemma faced by a bride-to-be. The dress has been chosen,
bridesmaids arranged for; invitations, food, etc. obtained. A day or two before the wedding the bride comes to the full realization that the proposed nuptials is a big mistake—a long-term mistake! What to do? Go ahead—because too much money and time has already been expended? Call it all off and bear the embarrassment of a supposedly happy social occasion nixed? To go through with the event, with no truth to the vows about to be professed, shows no integrity.

Even though much money and time has been spent on the General Plan with Alternatives A, B & C, it makes no sense to throw “good” money after “bad!” To
charge ahead with the flawed plan and rule against the will of the local taxpayer is to behave like the Federal Government re the Health Care Reform bill. The future economic health of the County, the rights of property owners and the continued employment of the current Board of Supervisors are at stake. Reconsider “D!”

Cathy Mason"
