Local Nurses Receive National Notariety
Nurses from Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital today received a certificate for the 2010 ADVANCE for Nurses Best Nursing Team. The nurses will be featured in the May 3 issue of ADVANCE for Nurses for their “Scrubs for Smiles” project that raises money from the sale of scrub uniforms. The money raised supports the surgery on babies born with cleft palates and hare lips. Money donated to the project, which started three years ago, has supported 25 surgeries. ADVANCE for Nurses is a national publication advocating for registered nurses of all specialties....

“We are so very proud of our nursing staff here at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital” said Hospital President Feliciano Jiron. “In this particular case, our Emergency Room staff came together to start this project. It is amazing what we do unselfishly, especially when the staff will probably never meet any of these children who benefit from this surgery. We do this work because of our mission.”
Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital is a not-for-profit, 48-bed general acute care hospital serving all of Calaveras County. Established in 1951 as Mark Twain District Hospital and centrally located in San Andreas, the hospital is partnered with Catholic Healthcare West to further strengthen this rural hospital to meet future community needs.
