The Google backed and web centric Android phone OS allows smaller and independent carriers to compete directly with phones such as the iPhone and larger carriers like ATT. Android provide a more open and less restrictive platform to build web based tools and services on.

Android is based on an open source Linux operating system with an easy to use and customize GUI or graphical user interface designed by Google. According to research firm Gartner Android is expected to pass the iPhone in usage sometime in 2012.

In much the same way as the iPhone Android lowers the barrier to entry to the less tech savvy doing more of their computing on their handsets. Email?...done, Facebook...easy, ThePineTree.net...easy to view and comment on the fly. Their are also tons of apps and widgets to customize and enhance your mobile computing experience. Even after a huge head start and enormous following of the iPhone the third party Android marketplace is redhot. Apps are now or soon will be available for almost any computing task.

Golden State Cellular has invested over $3 Million dollars and over $2.7 Million this year alone in upgrading their network. EVDO or 3G is being added to over 30 of their sites right now. This network upgrade will do as much as any single thing in the last few years to make doing business in the foothill and mountain regions as easy as the valley or bay area.
