Agnes Gwerder October 13, 1922 – March 2, 2010

Agnes Gwerder, a resident of Murphys, passed away on March 2nd, 2010. Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and special friend, Agnes left us for her final resting place with the Lord early Tuesday morning. A devoted parishioner and Alter Society member of St. Patrick’s Church, she also was previously active with the Independence Hall Quilters of Arnold, Calaveras Retirees, San Joaquin Valley Swiss Club, Aelpler Gruppe Swiss Club, and the Edelweiss Club of Sonora....

Agnes enjoyed Swiss music, playing bingo with the seniors of Murphys, card games, and especially her many talents knitting, crocheting, needle pointing, and quilting. She leaves many customers who she provided alterations for, but considered them all friends. Agnes loved her garden full of roses, daffodils and fruit trees. Baking was also one of her hobbies and specialties.

Agnes survived her husband since 1997, Josef, of 50 years of marriage. After raising their family in Fremont, Joe and Agnes retired in Arnold in 1979. The snow was too much for them and their gardening, so they moved and lived in Murphys since 1984. Surviving family members include children: Dr. Don Gwerder and wife Bertha from Switzerland, Art Gwerder and wife, Sue from Pleasanton, Janet Tsui-Gwerder and husband, Felix. Grandchildren include Eric Gwerder and wife Rayan, Christopher Tsui, Sarah Gwerder and Brianna Tsui. Agnes also leaves sisters Lena, Martha and Elizabeth and brother, Adolf, all living in Switzerland. Her sister, Margrit, who also just passed will be buried on the same day.
Family and friends are invited to attend her Rosary and Mass on Monday, March 8 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick’s Church at 615 Sheep Ranch Road in Murphys. If you wish, viewing will be held Sunday, March 7 from 1:00 – 5:00 pm at Angels Memorial Chapel at 1071 South Main Street in Angels Camp.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society, or St. Patrick’s Church Alter Society.
