Calaveras County Sheriffs Department makes Embezzlement Arrest.
San Andreas, CA...2/28/07...Following is a Sheriffs Report we received from the Calaveras County Sheriffs Department......
Subsequent to a lengthy investigation the Calaveras County Sheriffs Department made an arrest in a large Embezzlement, and Identity Theft case which began in November of 2006. Dashanna Marie Reed, 27 of Stockton was hired through a temp agency by the Calaveras County Water District (CCWD) in November of 2006. During her employment she opened up an fraudulent account using the business information belonging to CCWD and charged approximately $20,000.00 on this account. Reed made numerous transactions from the CCWD building while on the internet to Lowe's, and Home Depot in Stockton.
After her employment was terminated Reed continued to use the fraudulent account to make purchases at those Stockton stores.
On 2/28/07 Calaveras Sheriffs Department Detectives along with Stockton Police Detectives, and an Agent from the United States Postal Service served a search warrant at the Stockton Residence of Reed. Upon arrival Reed was resent and taken into custody for a Felony Calaveras County Warrant.
A search of the residence revealed a large amount of the property valued at thousands of dollars. Calaveras Sheriffs Detectives were able to recover every item that was purchased on the account while she was in Calaveras County which included; Xbox game systems, household cleaning items, pans, pots, dishes, lamps, a laptop computer and numerous other items of value.
Stockton Detectives located a large amount of the items which Reed purchased in Stockton via the internet as well as at local stores. Lowe's and Home Depot representatives were present and assisted in identifying their property and provided delivery trucks to haul the items away. The items seized by Stockton included; an installed dishwasher, barbeque, refrigerator, wall paper, light switches and numerous other items of value.
A search was also conducted at Reed's nearby storage unit and baby furniture was recovered a that location by Calaveras County Sheriff Detectives.
Reed was taken to the San Joaquin County Jail where she was booked for the Calaveras County Sheriffs Department arrest warrant for the charges of Embezzlement, Fraudulent Use of an Access Card, and Identity Theft. Reed was also booked for the Stockton charges of Grand Theft, as well as Check Fraud.
The United States Postal Service Investigator was present, and assisted in this investigation due to the fact that Reed made numerous purchases through the mail. Reed now faces Federal charges in this case as well.
