Hundreds Turn Out To Celebrate the Life of Mike (Mikey) Young ~By John Hamilton
Bear Valley, CA...It was an amazing evening in Bear Valley as hundreds of people came from all over for the Celebration of Life for Mike Young. As the normal ski day came to a close the crowd in Bear Valley seemed to grow instead of shrink as people arrived to pay their respects and celebrate the life of Bear Valley's Snowsports Director who passed away just after Thanksgiving. The attendees included a veritable "Who's Who" of Bear Valley's Past & Present. It was a special night in honor of a man who was at the center of Bear Valley's Snowsports programs for decades...

Things started off with a "Slopestyle" demonstration that featured impressive displays of skill in Mikey's honor. This was followed great meal served by the Young and Archer families.
It was "Load the Chairs" time as current and returning coaches, instructors and alumni of snowsports programs participated in a very touching torchlight parade. The parade ended with the participants forming a giant "M" for Mikey with their torches. The parade was complete with fireworks highlights.
This was followed by one of the central events of the night! Bear Valley Mountain unveiled the new sign that officially renamed "Bunny Basin"..."Mikey's Meadow"! This meadow is where Mike held court for all of the ski school programs for years and years. After the unveiling the fireworks display commenced in earnest.
The celebration moved back inside for photos, movies and tributes presented by friends and family of the touching highlights of Mikey's life. This was followed by the official "Polish Christmas" events of burning the Christmas Trees and celebrating Mikey around the fire.
It was a touching, moving and unforgettable evening!
