The Columbia State Park 27th Annual Lamplight Tour, A Wonderful Holiday Tradition!
Columbia, CA...The "Friends of the Park" held the 27th Annual Lamplight Tour this last weekend with the support of Volunteers, Docents. Guests were taken back to 1859 for a historic guided walking tour of the park. They had thirteen different stops on the tour. In the photo below they are talking about how the new "Pony Express" would shorten mail delivery times. It was a great event that took advantage of the beautiful historic backdrop of our area. This annual Christmas event is "a walking tour through the historic town guided by lamplight bearing costumed docents/volunteers. Tour groups visit about thirteen vignette sites featuring historic Christmas traditions pertinent to various ethnic peoples of Columbia from 1859. This year's theme "Down but not Out" emphasizes the population of Columbia is decreasing due to the lack of easy gold pickings. However, the town is growing in social awareness by building a new brick school, making sure the town is protected against future devastating fires, and are becoming less prejudice against other ethnic groups." This was a wonderful way for you and yours to begin a joyous holiday season.....
A Wonderful Christmas Celebration with Columbia Stories. You had a chance to visit the many buildings and see the scenes played out. Volunteers created an enchanted evening in a Gold Rush town. This annual event is the largest fundraiser for the Friends of the park group.
Make plans for next year, as this is a must do!
We attended a lamplight tour very similar years ago in Mystic Connecticut. What a wonderful memory this will be forever for our family!
