Country Music Fundraiser For Mind Matters on January 17th~by Bob Reagan

Three of country music’s most successful songwriters will stage a concert on behalf of the Mind Matters clinic on Sunday, January 17, 2 p.m. in the Black Bart Playhouse, 580 S. Algiers St., Murphys. Craig Carothers, Don Henry, and Steve Seskin, in addition to being the creators of award winning tunes that have been recorded by such legends as Peter Frampton, the Oak Ridge Boys, and Kenny Chesney, are accomplished performers in their own rights. They have played to enthusiastic crowds throughout the United States.....

“We are fortunate that entertainers of this stature have agreed to help our clinic,” states Dr. Ryan Thompson, Executive Director of Mind Matters. “The money we raise through this concert will help us to reach more families that can benefit from our services.”

Mind Matters is a non-profit, multi-disciplinary treatment center devoted to addressing the many needs of patients and families affected by Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Learning Disabilities. It is located at 150 Big Trees Road in Murphys.

Craig Carothers began his career performing in and around his hometown of Portland, Oregon. In 1995 country music star Trisha Yearwood recorded his song “Little Hercules” that went on to earn a gold record and to launch Carothers into national prominence, both as a composer and performer.

In recent years his songs have been recorded by Peter, Paul and Mary, Kathy Mattea, Lorrie Morgan, Sons of the Desert, Kate Markowitz, Berkley Hart, and many other outstanding artists.

Don Henry is a veteran of 28 years in the music business as a songwriter, singer, guitarist, and entertainer. His Grammy Award winning songs have been recorded by the biggest names in the business including Patti Page, Ray Charles, Conway Twitty, Gene Watson, and B. J. Thomas.

As a performer, Henry has shared the stage with such luminaries as Pete Seeger, Emmylou Harris, Jimmy Webb, Richie Havens, and Don Williams. As one critic wrote of his talents: “The crowd was won over by this guy and his guitar. Long may he write.”

Steve Seskin as a successful songwriter has written seven number one songs, including Grammy-nominated “Grown Men Don’t Cry,” recorded by Tim McGraw, and “Don’t Laugh at Me,” winner of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) Song of the Year. Recent recordings of his songs include “Pictures,” by John Michael Montgomery, “We Shook Hands,” by Tebey, and “I’ll Always Be There For You,” by Brian McComas.

While Seskin is best known for writing hits, he is also a successful performer and recording artist. He is currently touring in support of his latest CD, Steve Seskin "Live". This is his 17th recording released on his own record label.

Tickets for the Mind Matters Fundraiser are $30 each and may be obtained by calling 728-2184. There is ample free parking at the Black Bart Playhouse.

Contributions to Mind Maters are tax deductible.
