Arnold Resident, Mike Young, Loses Battle with Cancer ~By John Hamilton
Arnold, CA...With heavy hearts we pass along the news that another local family is grieving. Longtime resident and Bear Valley Snow Sports Director, Mike Young, lost his valiant struggle against cancer last night. Mike has been a fixture of the Ebbetts Pass Community and Bear Valley for many years. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as...
He leaves behind a loving wife and 3 lovely children.
We hope that this wonderful community does everything they can to help his family through this.
Tragic news like this hits close to home as I lost both my parents to this hideous disease and my wife lost her father to cancer when he was about Mike's age. As this Thanksgiving weekend draws to a close it is a reminder for all of us to hug our families and cherish each and everyday we are blessed to have them in our lives.
They Young family was using a Blog to help Mike's friends and family follow his battle. We don't know how long they will keep it active but it was touching and uplifting to see how hard he fought and battled. His fight was a life and death fight and you could tell he gave it everything he had.
They keep making progress each and everyday in the battle against cancer. Mike even participated in a very early stage trial on a new treatment for advanced Melanoma.
Sorry if this news post has too much of a personal tone. Deaths in our community especially when they tear young families apart are hard to pass along especially when you have faced similar moments "In the Shadow"
Take care Young family and we will continue to keep you in our prayers. It helped me immensely to know when my parents died that others in the community missed them and cared for them as well.
The photos below we took for our story on the Avery Middle School Graduation. Mike is celebrating the graduation of his son James' graduation from Avery earlier this spring. It was taken a few weeks before his diagnoses and is a haunting reminder how fleeting life can be.
Rest in Peace Mike Young! You gave it your all!
Sincerely,
John
