Bear Valley, CA....The Day Lodge was packed with eager faces just waiting for the white stuff to pile up just enough to get the 2009/10 season underway. Why was the room packed when we are still a few weeks away from the local resorts opening for the season? It was a pre-season meeting of one of the most successful local sports programs. The Bear Valley Race Team has spawned World Cup and Olympian Skiers and has sent skiers to the Junior Olympics the last two years. To top it off Keely Cashman is the reigning overall champion in her age group for Northern California. She took top honors last spring against the best that Squaw Valley, Sugar Bowl, Mammoth, Dodge Ridge, Auburn Ski Club and more could throw at her...

What does all this mean? If you are an athlete or parents of a young skier that wants to excel at the highest levels you can do it right here at Bear Valley.

The programs are regarded by many to be the best weekend race programs on the West Coast. The coaches all former nationally ranked racers are committed to cranking out wave after wave of the some of the best skiers on snow.

Why ski for Bear Valley instead of one of the big Tahoe resorts? First and foremost it is a family oriented team. The athletes get real one on one, personal and group coaching in a focused but, entertaining pace. The program is also a great value with total costs usually coming in at under 1/2 what the bigger Tahoe programs run.

Last year the chatter around the Timing Boards at the bottom of many a course was "What are they teaching them in Bear Valley?" Well...sign up for the team and find out.

Will your young charge become the next Bodie Miller or Lindsay Vonn? If you ski for Bear Valley you are giving them their best shot. If they fall short and move in a different direction later in life they will always have the skills they learned and will, like most ex racers be the best recreational skiers on the mountain...any mountain.

The season starts off with a blast with their training camp over the Christmas Break.
