Music In The Parks Series Has Another Great Run This Year!...Video Coming Shortly

Arnold, CA...The Fishtank Ensemble Provided a Gypsy Farewell to the Music in the Parks Series for Summer 2009. The Cedar Center was packed and everyone really seemed to be having a great time. Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital was even on hand to provide free health screenings. The Fishtank Ensemble provided a wonderful musical backdrop the warm summer night. Their music is unique and fun and after seeing them on Wednesday night they will be a must see whenever they cross the calendar...

A packed Cedar Center on Wednesday Night...

The Calaveras Arts Council's Music Series has become a staple of the summer music scene in the County. Each week they drew large crowds of music lovers to the concerts that visited a different park each week.

The series is also a great way for people to see the county one park at a time.

From the pre-concert press release below...Fishtank Ensemble is a not to be missed event for world music lovers...and everyone will love this intoxicating mix of music.

Eyes and ears tend to focus on Ursula Knudson who plays the violin, the carpenter saw, and sings beautifully in Romanian, French, Japanese, and sometimes even in English, her native tongue. At times, you can’t tell if it’s her voice or the saw, which, by the way, was a folk-music staple in the mid-nineteenth century and experienced its greatest popularity during the days of vaudeville. Knudson is doing her part to revive the saw and its gossamer, voice like sound.

Fabrice Martinez is a gifted fiddler who traveled Europe in a mule-drawn caravan collecting and playing folk music with the group Croque Mule. Originally from France before living in the caravan, his special love is Romanian folk music. He also plays Gypsy, Hungarian, Swedish, and many other kinds of music.

Doug Smolens is an accomplished Flamenco guitarist, producer and composer. Performing as "el douje," his playing is a unique and bold mixture of traditional and modern styles, from 'jondo' flamenco to modern day world fusion/drum and bass/techno.

Japanese shaisen player and bassist Djordje Stejepovic studied classical, but now, his signature slap bass brings down the house.

Formed in 2005 in Oakland, the band plays everywhere from the hippest LA clubs to festivals, cultural centers, museums, parades, and even on the street. Catch them in Calaveras at Arnold’s Cedar Center, just off Highway 4 on Oak Circle. The concert is free. Bring your picnics and lowback chairs. Call the Calaveras Arts Council for info or visit www.calaverasarts.org.
