Re: State Parks
Governor Schwarzenegger:
It is unlikely that anyone could look upon the Sequoiadendron giganteum and not feel a sense of awe and reverence. The Board of Supervisors of Calaveras County encourages you and the legislature to save the heart of California, our parks. The challenge that you face is truly a trail we wish you and the state did not have to walk; and as you have stated, our parks give endless possibilities, the terrain unrivaled and its beauty breathtaking. Calaveras Big Trees State Park in Arnold is as John Muir said, “A flowering glade in the very heart of the woods…” The Indian Grinding Rock near Jackson is a tribute to the Miwok who passed through without disturbing anything; and Columbia State Historic Park in Tuolumne County, is a living gold rush town. And the two bookends of the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway are Calaveras Big Trees and Grover Hot Springs State parks. These are examples of the heart of our state.....
Our communities, our passionate park volunteers and docents, and the associations that support these parks, will rise to this occasion, please give us the opportunity.
State Parks Director, Ruth Coleman, said if you “hit-the-trail in our State Parks…you will discover the unparalleled beauty found in the natural areas of this state.” Our parks are our soul, please do what is extraordinary and save them.
