Letter to the Editor~by Hugo and Sharon Scotto

Dear Editor..."Maybe I don’t have all of the facts, but my sense of decency tells me that it is pretty cruel of the county officials to watch a beautiful golf course being constructed in this county over several years with the head of the planning department supposedly going with the Nemees to secure a loan for part of the construction. Then three of the supervisors denied them the use of this beautiful golf course. Guess they thought the Nemees just had money to throw away. Maybe they are jealous because it was not built in their corner of the county! If this golf course had been built in Murphys, it would have been approved immediately....

The Nemees even volunteered to give a million dollars to the water department to help pay for a pipeline to that area and CCWD would love to have that money. This whole county and state needs a better water system so why punish the Nemees because of the state and county officials negligence to provide the necessary watering system for our county and state.

And would Kathy Meyhew be happier with a dairy farm next to her home with the manure fumes and runoff polluting the air and local wells or does Kathy just not have a life?

This county is well known for two things; Mark Twain and the jumping frogs of Calaveras County and Charles Ng and Leonard Lake, who killed and tortured many people several years back. In addition to the Great Mark Twain, we need another great for which to be known, so how about making it a beautiful and one of the best golf courses in the state of California, Trinitas.
This county is presently laying off employees, wouldn’t it be nice to have a thriving new business that would be hiring people and bringing in tax revenue to the county so the county could run efficiently and start hiring people instead.
Do we, the tax payers, want to pay to defend the cruel decision of the three supervisors who voted against the Nemees? The Nemees are currently in the process of suing the county (and we don’t blame them one bit). Do you want your tax money going to lawyers OR for something positive for Calaveras County?

Everywhere I go, I hear people talking about it. One lady with an obvious amount of decency, said, “Well, why did they let them build it if they were not going to approve it?” Out of the mouths of babies!

So what do you think our brilliant officials should do? Submit to a minority of complainers and gossipers who don’t know the facts OR give the necessary permits to the Nemees and do something positive for our county?

Let your supervisor know how you feel about it. Let’s try to help our county do the right thing for us and the Nemees! We vote for Trinitas and the Nemees!

Hugo and Sharon Scotto
