Bear Valley STAR PARTY, the Mountains and Music

Bear Valley, CA....Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wondered what was out there in our vast universe? Galaxies, Nebula, and star clusters. Now, everyone can experience the wonders of the universe during the third annual Bear Valley Star Party on July 25th and 26th! Dark skies and masses of viewable stars have been the purview of residents and visitors since Bear Valley Ski Resort was developed in the late 1960’s. Today, organizers are encouraging everyone to come and discover this special gem, located on Scenic Highway 4 in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, to view the heavens, hear world-class music and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities....

Expanding upon what nature offers at the lush alpine resort-- an area surrounded by national forest with little ambient light, clear skies and an elevation of 7,500 feet-- the third annual Bear Valley Star Party offers organized viewing, telescopes for those who do not have them, and experts to guide their viewing experience.

“The viewing site at the ski resort is more suited for the amateur astronomer and not for those expecting a well established telescope field. It is best suited for those that can be set up and torn down the same night. The site was chosen for its combination of open visibility and lack of surrounding light,” states Jeff McClain, organizer of the event. McClain continues, “Whether you bring your own telescope, view through the special telescopes we provide, or just bring a blanket or chairs to casually join in the fun, this promises to be a special experience to be enjoyed year after year.”

The event is being held in conjunction with the 41st annual Bear Valley Music Festival, a two week plus celebration of classical and popular music, featuring a full orchestra of musicians who annually travel from far and wide to participate along with featured special guest artists. The Star Party will add another activity and also support the non-profit Music Festival as well as its Young Musician’s Camp.

The complete Festival schedule, lodging, dining and village information can be found at www.bearvalleymusic.org. and more about the Star Party at www.bearvalleystarparty.com including casual classes on astronomy.
