Local Firefighter Running for a Cure~by Charity Maness
Copperopolis, CA....Local firefighter Stacey Nolan will be running a Nike women’s marathon on October 18th in San Francisco to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), as a participant in the Team in Training program. Stacey has been a long time resident of Copperopolis, and volunteer firefighter and fire prevention specialist for the Copperopolis Fire Protection District for the past five years. She’s also a Cal-Fire firefighter stationed at the Columbia Air Base. As if that’s not enough, she’s a phlebotomist at Sonora Regional Medical.....
Giving has been a large part of Stacey’s life. Just in Copperopolis alone she donates her time to the Copperopolis Elementary School instructing children in fire prevention and awareness. She has spent time in the classrooms helping children create one of a kind Christmas cards for each and every resident of the Foothill Convalescent Hospital in Angels Camp. She has been spotted calling numbers for the local firefighter’s bingo on the third Saturday of every month, and caught dressed as a ditzy femme fatal from the late 1800’s acting in the local melodrama as ‘Cupcake.’
Today I found her at a flea market selling everything from salt and pepper shakers to a 2005 Harley Davidson tailpipe kit. One would think she’s trying to raise funds for herself, but no, not Stacey. The whole table and surrounding items are being sold to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. 100% of the proceeds will go to LLS.
When I asked Stacey why she chose to do this she laughed a great bubbly laugh and said, “I know, I know, big girls don’t run.” Then with pride she said, “But I have set this goal for myself not only to be healthier, but to run in honor of the many people who have lost their lives to this disease. More than 823,000 Americans are battling these blood cancers and I hope that my participation in the LLS Team in Training will bring them hope and support.”
