Fishing Report for Hwy 4 Corrider for 5/27/09~by Bill Reynolds of Ebbetts Pass Sporting Goods
Ebbetts Pass is now open. It was a busy Memorial weekend with aot of nice fish caught. Spicer is now OPEN. There are still snow drifts along the road so be careful as you drive in. Hobart Creek is off limits to fishing until July 1st. Lake Alpine has thawed and they are clearing the snow around the lake. Lake Alpine Lodge officially opened this past weekend. For fly fishermen try using bead head woolly buggers, and bead head nymphs. Bait casters should try using Gulp Power Eggs, Gulp Power Bait, Power Eggs, Gulp Nightcrawlers, nightcrawlers, and salmon eggs. Lure casters should try Kastmasters, Panther Martin Spinners, and Rooster Tails. Congratulations to Charley Buchanan as he landed a beautiful 7lb. Rainbow.
The North Fork of the Stanislaus River will be planted this week. The planted fish have been really nice this year. The N. Fork is in excellent condition. Try split-shotting night crawlers or crickets with a 12" to 18" leader.Bait casters should also try Power Eggs, Gulp Power Eggs, Gulp Nightcrawlers, Gulp Worms, Gulp Power Bait, and salmon eggs. Lure casters should try Kastmasters, Panther Martin spinners, Rooster Tail's, and try Rapala's. Fly fishermen should try bead head woolly buggers, bead head nymphs, and black ants.
Beaver Creek has been planted this week. Bait casters should try split-shotting night crawlers, crickets, and salmon eggs. You can also try Gulp Nightcrawlers, Gulp Eggs, Gulp Maggots, and Gulp Worms. Lure casters can try Rapala's, Panther Martin Spinners,Kastmasters, Rooster Tails, and Mepps. Fly fishermen should try bead head nymphs, woolly buggers, black ants, humpy's,crickets, and blue wing olive flies.
White Pines Lake located in Arnold has had the Environmental Impact Report done so now it is up to the DFG to put White Pines back on the plant list (SOON). Bait casters should try inflated night crawlers, Gulp Eggs, Gulp Nightcrawlers, Gulp Worms, Gulp Maggots, and salmon eggs, using a cast-a-bubble and 30" leader. Lure casters should try Kastmasters, and Panther Martin spinners. Fly fishermen should try woolly buggers, sparrow nymphs, blue wing olive, bead head nymphs, and black ants.
Spicer already has been producing some beautiful fish. The ramp is open but the dock is still not in the water and no word as to when it will be placed. For trollers that are able to launch try using Apex, Needlefish, Wedding Rings, behind a small flasher tipped with a nightcrawler. Bait casters should try using Gulp Power Eggs, Gulp Nightcrawlers, Power Bait, Gulp Power bait, Power Eggs, salmon eggs, crickets and nightcrawlers. Fly fishermen should try crickets, zug bugs, black ants, woolly buggers, sparrow nymphs, and bead head nymphs.
Campgrounds at Sourgrass is now officially open. Camping is available at Big Trees State Park and Golden Pines just beyond Big Trees on Highway 4.
