Paul D. Raggio April 27, 1931 – May 25, 2009

Angels Camp, CA...Paul passed away May 25 with his family by his side. He was born April 27, 1931 at Granny Minard’s Maternity home in Angels Camp to Dave and Louise Valente Raggio. He and his brother Peter were the first set of twins in town. They were welcomed home by big brother Jimmy. Paul was the last of that generation. Paul went to work at the Division of Highways in 1948 and retired from the newly named Cal-Trans in 1993. He was pre deceased by his parents, Dave and Louise and brothers, Peter and Jim. Survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty. Sons, Paul (Heidi) of Merced and John (Clare) of Milton. Grandchildren, Andrea, Joe, Matt and Marissa. His brother in law, John Raggio (Beverly) of Merced. Sister in law Phyllis Raggio of Angels Camp. Nieces, Valerie (Grant) Apley and Tracey (Wayne) Segale of Angels Camp. Gina Raggio of Roseville and Angela Raggio of San Jose. Nephews, Stuart (Melissa) Raggio of Angels Camp and Kevin Raggio of Murphys. Great Nieces, Taylor Raggio, Samantha Raggio, CourtneyTesta and Lizzy Raggio. Great Nephews, Zach and Avery Apley, Riley Segale and Chad Testa. Also his “Texas hold em” buddies Clyde Seeman and Georgie Segale and his wonder dog “Tip”....

A Graduate of Bret Harte High School class of 1950, he served in the Air Force from 1952-1956. In 1972 he became a Councilman for the City of Angels. Serving for 20 years, during that period he was the Mayor during 1990-1992. After years of retirement he was re-elected in 2000 to present. He was a Board Member and Acting Chairman of the Utica Power Authority, a member of the Angels Gun Club, Native Sons, Figli d’ Italia, Calaveras Cattleman’s Assoc., Ducks Unlimited and the NRA. He ranched on Red Hill with brother Pete for over 40 years. An avid hunter from a young age, he passed this passion to his sons and grandchildren and enjoyed many hunting outing with friends and family.

He was a small man in stature, but a large man in Life. His word was better than a contract.

Visitation hours are Friday May 29, 2009 from 1 till 6 p.m.

Services: Rosary Recited at 2:00 p.m Mass of Christian burial Sunday May 31, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Angels Camp Ca. Private Internment Sunday May 31, 2009 St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Murphys. Reception to follow at Angels Camp Gun Club, Angels Camp.
