What’s Happening in Murphys this Week May 22 – May 30

Murphys, CA....May 22, 2009 - Alchemy Restaurant and Wine Bar. Don't miss local jazz legend Matt Cullen, performing classic jazz on our patio every Friday from 5:30-8 pm.  There's even room to dance if you wish! May 23, 2009 – The new Murphys Visitor Center will be opening this weekend in the Arbors Shopping Center near the Black Sheep Tasting Room. Stop by and welcome them to town while picking up brochures and information about local businesses and attractions. The new center is sponsored by Cave and Mine Adventures. Support them by taking a tour of our local caves and cool off in the process!....



May 23, 2009 - Walking Tours of Historic Downtown Murphys are available at no charge on Saturday mornings at 10am leaving from the Old Timers Museum across from the Murphys Hotel. Please contact Bob Buchanan at 209-728-3517 to confirm times and dates or to set up a tour for a group of 12 or more.

May 23, 2009 - Pat Stone will lead a Summer Flowers of Ebbetts Pass seminar from 10 A.M. to noon. The presentation of the Calaveras Big Trees Association will be held in Jack Knight Hall at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Pat is a long-time leader of the Sierra Foothills Chapter of the California Native Plant Society. Stone's program will be followed by a wildflower identification walk in the park. Admission to the park is $7 per car. Seminars are free and open to the public. Pack a lunch, bring the family and plan on spending the day among the Giant Sequoias. May 23, 2009 - Live Murder Mystery with Dinner at Irish Vineyards. $85.00 per person. Join us for “Mrs. Witherspoon’s Reading of the Will.” Participants will be mailed an invitation with the name of the Character that they will arrive as (all famous people) we ask that you get into character through dress, hairstyle, voice, mannerisms, etc. Great fun will be had by all. May 23-24, 2009 – Crazy Days Sidewalk Sale in Murphys. Join us for the first annual sidewalk sale in historic downtown Murphys. Shop, eat and wine taste while enjoying the beautiful spring weather. Don’t forget to check out the Fire Department’s yard sale at the corner of Main Street and Highway 4 as well as other sidewalk sales sprinkled throughout town. NEXT Upscale Resale on Big Trees Road will also be hosting sales.

May 24, 2009 – Rubber Chicken Roast. Come join the fun at Twisted Oak Winery in Vallecito and enjoy food, wine and a raffle. Twisted Oak has planned a barbeque chicken dinner with all the fixings, including wine, for only $35 a person. The event benefits the Rubber Chicken National Forest and the Calaveras Big Trees Association. Tickets are $35 per person. Call for reservations and more information. 209-736-9080 ext 10.

May 25, 2009 – The Calaveras Community Band is kicking off its series of Monday evening rehearsals in the Murphys Community Park gazebo with an informal Memorial Day concert of patriotic music on Monday, May 25, starting at 6:30 p.m. Individuals and families are encouraged to pack a picnic supper and enjoy it alongside the cooling creek while listing to good music.

May 26, 2009 – Alchemy Restaurant and Wine Bar hosts popular band “Over the Edge” from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. Bring your friends and family and join the party! Chef Jason Wright and his partner Sandie Carillo will satisfy your taste buds while Adam and Dave offer up tunes from their eclectic set list. May 27, 2009 - Sustenance Books hosts a new book club on the fourth Wednesday of each month. On Wednesday, May 27th, 6:30 pm, we'll discuss Elegance of the Hedgehog. May 28, 2009 - Enjoy dinner with Chef James at Ironstone Vineyards. He will be cooking dinner at the BBQ pit just outside the Chardonnay Vineyard. May 30, 2009 – Sustainable Home Bus Tour sponsored by the Central Sierra Ecological Building Association will be featuring the Red Apple Ranch development here in Murphys.
