Copperopolis is Gearing up for its 16th Annual Homecoming Celebration and Parade on June 6th! ~by Charity Maness

Come one come all, enjoy our hometown celebration!....Did you know that in the late 1800’s the community of rancher’s in this area that were spread out far and wide would come together once a year for a huge family picnic? This yearly picnic became known as “Homecoming.” Hence the name of our wonderful community/family get together every year garnering the time honored name “Homecoming.”....

The festivities begin early in the morning with a scrumptious pancake breakfast at the Historic armory located on Main Street in downtown Copperopolis from 8:00 to 10:30am. This incredible country breakfast is cooked and served by our wonderful Community Center Volunteers proceeds benefiting the Community Center for preservation and restoration of our historic church and Armory buildings. There will be a beautiful display of handmade quilts by our Lake Tulloch Quilters Guild, jewelry vendors, book signing by a local author, and a wonderful selection of gifts and gift baskets for raffle, proceed of raffle to benefit Copperopolis Elementary, winning tickets announced by 11:00. Just when you think you can’t eat another bite you may find yourself the target of an armed robbery. But thankfully there are still some hero’s left in this town to defend you.

Next up is the Copperopolis Parade starting at 11:00 am. Good news, there is still time to enter. Call Belva at 785-2393 for information and/or entry forms. For a small fee of $5.00 you too can be a star for a day with your own parade entry.

The Parade will be headed up by our own DeDe & Pastor Ted Mustill as Grand Marshal’s. You’re sure to see pageantry that will amaze you for a small town parade. Get ready to catch some candy flying from floats, cars, fire engines and horses. Okay, the horses will not be throwing candy, lack of opposable thumbs and all that. Hopefully the cowboy or cowgirl high upon their trusty steeds will be throwing candy.

Following the parade there will be an awards ceremony that will take place at 1:00 pm on the Copperopolis Fire Department lawn. While there make sure to visit the various emergency vehicles that will be on display and be prepared to be volunteered to do some auto extrication, a little friendly advice here from someone that volunteered last year, the jaws of life are a lot heavier than they look. There will be a children’s corner with a free bouncy house and other activities. Whatever you do don’t look too hot and tired, for our firefighters will be more than happy to cool you down in a hurry.

As if all this is not enough, at the other end of town in the Copper Cove Village parking lot starting at 2:00 pm there is a chili cook-off sponsored by the Sports Pub benefitting the Copper Elementary sixth grade science camp complete with, you guessed it, CHILI! There will be a fire prevention booth handing out goodies for the kids, antique fire engines, Umpqua Bank ice cream and local author Charity Maness signing copies of her latest release. Did I mention there will be Chili?

For info on the chili cook off contact Micki at the Sports Pub at 785-4646.
For info on a vendor booth at homecoming contact Sandy at 785-4081.
For parade entry info call Belva at 785-2393.

Hope to see you there!!
