Register for Columbia College Sports Activities this Summer

Looking for local sports activities for youth and adults this summer? Be sure to check out what’s happening in volleyball and basketball, offered by Columbia College’s community education department. Starting June 15 and running through Aug. 3, an outdoor grass volleyball program will be held on Monday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Symons Field on the college campus. Intermediate and advanced volleyball players of all ages are encouraged to sign up. Raelene Juarez, women’s head volleyball coach at Columbia College, is coordinator of the program.....

Fee for the grass volleyball program is $30 per person (non-refundable), with parking included. Registration is due by June 8. For more information, call the athletic department office at 588-5180. Pre-registration is recommended, but participants can also register on-site.

Nathan Rien, men’s head basketball coach at the college, is hosting the 7th Annual Basketball Academy for boys and girls in grades 3 through 12. The summer camp will be held on July 6-9 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Oak Pavilion.

The basketball clinics will include individual instruction on the fundamentals of the game, namely offensive skills, rebounding and guards/post play. Participants will receive a T-shirt, individual analysis, a 3-on-3 tournament, games and prizes.

Cost is $100 per student (non-refundable), and a parking fee of $1 per day is payable at the college toll booth. Rien can be reached at 588-5182 for information on the academy, or for registration details.
