CAL Fire Announces 2009 Summer Preparedness for Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties

San Andreas – On Monday, May 11, 2009, at 8 AM. The Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit (TCU) of CAL FIRE announces the opening of summer preparedness within the state responsibility areas of Tuolumne County, Calaveras County, Eastern Stanislaus County and Eastern San Joaquin County. The declaration of summer preparedness allows all 15 CAL FIRE stations to be staffed on a 24-hour basis to help protect California’s wild lands. The Columbia Air Base will be staffed with a helicopter starting, Monday, May 18, 2009, at 8 AM. .....

CAL FIRE Tuolumne -Calaveras Unit Chief Mike Noonan reminds citizens to continue with defensible space clearing. By protecting your home, you protect your neighbors’ home as well as the community we live in.

Each year there is a potential for devastating fires which could have been prevented. CAL FIRE, cannot stress enough to continue to maintain defensible space around your homes, become involved in your local Fire Safe Council, and be extra careful when recreating in our wildlands this summer.

For more information on defensible space and fire safety visit the CAL FIRE website at:
