Columbia College opens Public Safety Center
Columbia, CA...Over a hundred people attended the ribbon cutting of Columbia College’s Public Safety Center today at 10:00 a.m. The $2.8 million structure is the first Measure E funded building project to be completed. The new facility consolidates the existing campus emergency services into a single location, which includes the Columbia College Fire Station #79, campus security and emergency dispatch services. Dr. Joan Smith, Columbia College president opened the ceremonies and was followed by a number of guest speakers, including Gary Mendenhall, Columbia College dean of vocational education; Preston Birdwell, college fire station manager; Bob Wiedman, representing Senator Dave Cogdill’s office; Doug Miller, representing Assemblyman Tom Berryhill’s office; Dr. Roe Darnell, Yosemite Community College District (YCCD) chancellor; Anne DeMartini, YCCD board chairperson; Pat Dean, YCCD board vice chairperson; Mike Riley, YCCD board trustee; Connie Mical, Columbia vice president-administration; and Abe Rojas, YCCD board trustee....
ollowing the ribbon cutting, tours of the new facility were conducted by fire science students. Operations of the fire station are conducted as a partnership of the YCCD/Columbia College, Cal Fire and the Tuolumne County Fire Department.
The facility architecture was designed by Lionakis of Sacramento and the general contractor was Robert E. Boyer Construction of Twain Harte. Project management was handled by Kitchell, CEM of Modesto.
