The Community Says Goodbye to Skye, Kallie & Trenton ~By John Hamilton
San Andreas, CA...The Flock Gym at Calaveras High School was filled with students, friends and family members yesterday afternoon honoring the Montgomery family children who lost their lives in a tragic motor vehicle accident. The gym was almost filled to capacity with those in our community to pay their respects and to say goodbye to the three young members of the Montgomery family. Tears, smiles and warm feelings flowed freely as members of the community lined up to talk about their departed friends...
Especially touching were the comments from their friends and the comments and songs from Skye's Soccer team. Even school rivalries disappeared as we saw a young man representing the Bret Harte swim team attending and bringing flowers.
The memorial was the culmination of two weeks of community grief and shock at the loss of four young lives on Mountain Ranch Road. The last two weeks even though they have been filled with sorrow and loss have also been another example of what a great place Calaveras County is.
When one of our local families needs helps and support then Calaveras unfailingly steps up to the plate. There have been fundraising dinners, memorial funds set up and an outpouring of support for the families of those who lost loved ones.
In a large metropolitan area events such as these tragic deaths get muted in the large population base. In our county tragic events always affect a large segment of our residents because we either know those involved personally or know someone who did.
If yesterday's service was any indication then Skye, Kallie and Trenton the young man with shiny red hair will be missed and remembered for years to come.
Let's all hope that in the weeks and months ahead that we remember to continue to lift up the families of those who have fallen. The hardest for them is yet ahead. As the rest of us return to normal lives their "normal" will never be the same. Waves of grief will find them when memories of their lost loved ones return front and center again.
We were not really planning on taking any video but after we heard the first few minutes we thought it might be of some comfort to those who could not attend. The video below starts a few minutes into the ceremony.
