Murphys Irish Day Event Information from the Murphys Business Association ~By Michele Plotnik

This is just a quick update for all of you who have been unable to attend planning meetings or our most recent general membership meeting. First of all, I want to thank all of you who have volunteered to help in any way with Irish Day preparations, provided sponsorship monies, donated to the raffle, or agreed to work on the day of the event. This event couldn’t happen without the generous support of all of you.

Main Street and the portion of Algiers from Scott Street to Church St. will be closed from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. and parking in the area around the event will be quite limited. Please remind your employees that they will need to park in locations off Main Street. You and your employees should remember that Algiers will be closed for the parade from about 6:00 am until noon and there will be very limited vehicular access during that time. Free parking will be available at Ironstone Vineyards throughout the day, courtesy of the Kautz Family and Ironstone Vineyards. The free shuttle will run from the parking area behind Alchemy to Ironstone Vineyards from 9 am to 5:30 pm. Parking for the disabled will be available in the parking lot behind Alchemy. Paid event parking is available across from Arbors on the Hauselt property.

The event itself will be organized similar to last year with Main Street closed from Murphys Grade Road to Big Trees Road. Vendors will be located along Main Street the entire length of the event area excluding the residential area. Susan Machin and Bill Fullerton of the Murphys Volunteer Fire Department, our vendor coordinators, have taken care to locate vendors so that there is generous access to all our Main Street businesses. Organizing the vendors is a huge undertaking and this is Susan and Bills first year so please remember to thank them if you see them.

The parade will begin at 11:00 at the corner of Algiers and Main Street and will continue all the way to the intersection at Big Trees Road. Staging will be in the Black Bart Theatre parking lot and the library parking lot which will not be available for public parking until after noon.

Entertainment will occur along Main Street near the Murphys Hotel, in front of the Native Daughters, in front of the Native Sons and in front of the Arbors in an effort to encourage attendees to visit the entire length of Main Street. A mini Celtic Faire will be in the Park. The MBA booth will be set up in front of the Native Sons Hall. Raffle tickets are available there throughout the event.

We will again be required to limit the movement of alcohol on Main Street to the area between the Big Trees intersection and the large Irish Day banner such that the Murphys Hotel is outside our alcohol boundaries. We’ve been asked to remind everyone that no event alcohol should be allowed inside any business. Tasting room, bar or other alcohol should not be allowed outside of those establishments or onto Main Street. We are asking for everyone’s cooperation in enforcing these guidelines.

And, lastly, please, no dye in the creek this year. We are being scrutinized by the Regional Water Board and Fish & Game due to last couple of year’s incidents being reported to them by concerned residents.

Feel free to give me a call or e-mail me if you have any further questions.
