CEO’s Report

As many of you may recall, there was a carnival accident at last year’s Fair. The ride that malfunctioned will no longer be used at the fair.
Carnival Owner, Harry Mason made a presentation to the Board outlining improvements and health and safety measures taken to ensure safe and enjoyable carnival operations at the fair this year.

Investigation report is still not complete. The preliminary report will confirm that in a metallurgical examination the locking tang washer had a catastrophic failure. The report will contain a list of safety requirements; which is typical in such an industrial accident. As a result of a September 2008 investigation by the Consumer Products Safety Commission there was a nation-wide recall of all YoYo rides. Mr. Mason stressed that “nowhere in the report will it state that I am an unsafe operator or a shoddy operator. We have been in business for 30 years and have never had an incident like this before. We have now hired a full-time safety director. Who will be responsible for training and documentation of all safety procedures. We have also hired a new Human Resource manager who’s responsibility will be to interview, drug test, do background checks of all employees and hire. We sent certified letters to the manufacturers of all our rides to ensure that we will receive any and all notices of recalls or safety bulletins. We have contracted with a third-party safety consultant, Mr. Ray Rieder, who will conduct both pre-operational and operational inspections on each ride. He will be on the grounds for the whole fair.” Mr. Mason expressed considerable regret that the accident occurred. I cannot apologize enough to the Board, and the community, that we have not been able to get any facts as to what happened. The ride that failed was properly licensed and permitted and there was no way that we could have foreseen this component failure.”

Following the presentation, the Board voted unanimously to give the Concessionaire a vote of confidence for carnival operations this year.
