Students at Hazel Fischer School Display at the Window Gallery~by Brett Loring, ThePineTree Pedaler
The month of February is devoted to the art pieces of students of Hazel Fischer School as an avenue to promote visual arts in the community. These junior masterpieces are on display at the Window Gallery in the Big Trees shopping center in Arnold this month. Since the beginning of the school year, the students have had the opportunity to create with a multitude of mediums under the direction of their classroom teachers and art instructors Priscilla Natalia and Susan King....
Despite recent pressure for a nation-wide focus on academic standards, the visual arts standards are being addressed at the school too. Each grade level has expectations for art experiences and related skills and vocabulary. The outstanding drawing, paintings, collages, and masks reflect that art is alive and well at Hazel Fischer School.
Visitors to the window gallery will see portraits of Martin Luther King, Jr., rice-paper collages, replicas of Van Gogh’s “Starry Night,” paper sculptures of fantasy animals and other masterpieces. All six grade levels, K-5, are represented. “Arts of Bear Valley” has generously shared its window gallery with the students in order to support arts in the area. More student work will be on display during the summer months.
