Joanna Reagan Welcomes Members and Community to Murphys Community Club 61st Annual Meeting This Evening~by Victor Claveau
Murphys, CA....The use of Murphys Park is maintained by the Murphys Community Club, a non-profit organization made up of community volunteers, and is funded in part by contributions, membership and Park reservation fees. Joanna Reagan welcomed members and visitors to the 61st meeting of the Murphys Community Club, and led the group in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of our great nation. ....

The meeting was formally opened by President elect Michal Houston. The first order of business was a discussion of suggested changes to the Community Club Articles of Incorporation and the Constitution and bylaws, led by Treasurer elect Jerry Lucas.
Section 3 , of the Articles of Incorporation under “Purpose” was amended to read: “To improve, preserve, and beautify the parks and places of historical interest in and about the Community of Murphys, in Calaveras County, California. “
Section 4, of the Constitution and Bylaws, under “The Power of the Board of Directors “ was amended to read: To maintain and operate Murphys Park and to ensure that those using Murphys Park do not charge or assess fees of any kind for their use of Murphys Park. Sections 5, 6, and 7 were removed.
Changes were approved by unanimous vote of the membership. Note: There were no changes to the use of Murphys Park.
District 4 Supervisor, Tom Tryon installed the 2009 club officers and directors.

Michal Houston gave a report of the accomplishments of 2008, which included a 60% membership increase and a review of the improvements made to Murphy Park. Further discussion was on the schedule of events for 2009, including Homecoming and the goal of installing a Bachi (Bocce) Ball area. Guest speaker , Fire Captain Nick Shawkey of the California Department of Forestry (CAL Fire) Skull Creek Station, discussed what residents need to do in order to reduce the risk of fire (See related article which follows).
