HAPPY ANNIVERSARY PEGGY AND ROGER!

Arnold, CA....Peggy and Roger met on Pearl Harbor Day 1975. "We have a 24 year age difference which created some family tension. When we were married in 1980 I told everyone that we would have a party in 2000 to prove all the nay sayers wrong! We had a huge party at Lakemont Pines in January 2000. I raised my glass and said "told ya' so" to a crowd of 100 family and friends. It was THE party of 2000 and the talk of the town, for a day or two! We moved to Arnold in 1987. It was our 7th anniversary the day the moving truck arrived. The first snowflake fell as the last piece of furniture came off the moving truck.....

We have enjoyed 22 years in Arnold, as of this week! I was a nurse at Tuolumne General Hospital until 1998. That is when I was diagnosed with a life threatening allergy to natural rubber latex proteins. I wasn't expected to live much longer since it had taken them over 8 years to diagnosis my allergy. Many months of steroids, multiple medications, some even experimental, helped me through my sickest months. I had to find a new way to live if I was going to have a chance at a future.

We started by recreating a latex free home. From there, we reached out to the community to help create a latex safe zone for me to live in. It has taken 10 years but now I can live a latex safe life in Arnold. If I stay on my medications and avoid latex, I am pretty safe. I now have over 40 food allergies, chemical allergies and environmental allergies that present many daily challenges.
If it weren't for Roger being at my side, being my latex cop, I wouldn't be here. He worked with Big Trees Market to help them understand my special needs. He stepped up to the plate on my sickest days and took care of everything until I got back on my feet, maybe by 2004?

It was then that Roger's heart began to fail. Now his spine is collapsing and both of us are proud owners of titanium parts. We laugh and say that between the two of us we have one good person, on a good day.

We greet each day with our mantra of "Peace, Joy & Love", in hope for a good day for both of us. The book, "The Shack", has helped us find this peaceful place.

If it weren't for our strong network of friends in Arnold we don't know where we would be today.

I spent the day working in the rain, getting firewood and preparing for possible snow. I walked the dogs in the rain and prayed to God that we get to celebrate together on Monday. We have a few surprises planned for each other on Monday. We will celebrate with a latex safe dinner at Tallahan's, with good friends. What more could we ask for?

I thank you for letting me share some of our story with you. It is a real love story and I hope to write it some day.

Now, I focus on Roger and what his needs are. I know there will be plenty of time for me to fill in the future."
