Mark Twain Hospital Announces Community Grant Awardees
Two local non-profit groups received grant funding as part of the Catholic Healthcare West/Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital Community Grants Program. Grants were awarded to the Soroptimist’s Foundation and the Calaveras Children’s Dental Program. Projects funded will benefit the communities within Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital’s service area....
Funds awarded to the Soroptimist Foundation will be used to provide financial assistance for unmet medically related needs of women and girls in Calaveras County through their “Touching Lives” program.
The funds awarded to the Calaveras Children’s Dental Project will be used to augment the current elementary school dental program. Because of a change in outreach strategies, the program has experienced an increase of 45% in student contacts over last year.
The awards totaled more than $19,000 and were presented at a luncheon in Stockton at St. Joseph’s Medical Center where other Community Grants were awarded. The Community Grants Program is part of Mark Twain St. Joseph’s community benefits initiative. A total of $3.3 million for 199 community projects was awarded through the 40 CHW hospitals.
Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital is a not-for-profit, 48-bed general acute care hospital serving all of Calaveras County. Established in 1951 as Mark Twain District Hospital and centrally located in San Andreas, the hospital is partnered with Catholic Healthcare West to further strengthen this rural hospital to meet future community needs. The hospital is supported by 30 active physicians practicing in 24 specialties.
