Parks & Recreation Public Meeting Set for District 3
Anyone interested in the future of the parks and other recreation facilities and activities in Calaveras County is invited to attend a meeting at the Avery Middle School on Wednesday evening, February 11th, at 6:00 p.m. Posted signs will provide directions to the reserved classroom. For this meeting, the commission is particularly interested in the opinions of people who reside in Dorrington, Arnold, Avery, Hathaway Pines, Forest Meadows and.... .
surrounding lands. Over the past two months the commission has heard from Valley Springs, San Andreas and Murphys. The Copperopolis meeting is January 28th.
Organized by the county's Recreation and Parks Commission, this gathering will assist the commission in its efforts to create a Recreation Master Plan which will be folded in to the County General Plan Update. The discussion will be chaired by commissioner Mary Boblet who states:
"As we produce our Recreation Master Plan we need to identify community needs through the next twenty years. We invite the public to share their current recreation experiences and their ideas for ways our county can enhance the quality of life here and around the county. Nothing is out of bounds, and ideas need not be planned out in any way."
Of particular interest are comments from those who use White Pines Park, Emerson-Courtwright Ballfield, U.S. Forest Service lands, Big Trees State Park, Ebbetts Pass Community Center, other amenities, and other District 3 recreational facilities. They want to hear from quilters, golfers, fishermen, artists, hikers, cyclists, equestrians, athletes, and those involved in youth sports, in addition to dog walkers, OHV enthusiasts, and families who enjoy a picnic.
The goal is to collect public input from as diverse a group as possible. All ages are encouraged to take part in the discussion. The Calaveras Parks and Recreation Commission was established by the county to initiate the process of creating an efficient and adequately funded system of parks and recreational programs. The commission plays a supporting role to local governments as well as non-profit and volunteer organizations providing parks and programs serving county residents.
