State Route 49 and State Route 140 Now Closed Due To Fire. Yosemite Access via Hwys 120 & 41

Mariposa, CA...The Detwiler Fire has now forced the closure of State Route 140 and a larger section of State Route 49 (SR-49) in Mariposa County. Sr-140 is now closed from School House Road, west of Cathey's Valley to SR-49 in Mariposa. SR-49 is now closed from French Camp Road, north of the town of Mariposa, to SR-132 in the town of Coulterville. Evacuation Orders are in effect for the following areas: City of Mariposa, Mount Bullion Ridge Road from HWY 49N to CYA Road; Old Toll Road between Corbett Creek Road and HWY 49N, including Corbert Creek Road.; Mount Gains Road to No.9 Road including No.9 Road; Mount Bullion Cut off Road and Agua Fria Road from HWY 49N to HWY 140; HWY 49N to Baxby Bridge to Agua Fria Road; Area known as Mount Bullion; HWY 49N from Mount Bullion Ridge Road to Old Toll Road; Pendola Garden Road from HWY 49N to Old Toll Road (Exit via Old Toll Road only).

Detwiler Fire To Pass 20,000 Acres Soon (Or Already Has Since Last Official Estimate)

Mariposa, CA...Fire activity continued to grow throughout the night due to ample fuel, and steep terrain. Today firefighters expect unfavorable weather conditions and aggressive fire behavior. The communities of Hunters Valley, Bear Valley, and Hornitos continue to be threatened as the fire encroaches on culturally and historically sensitive areas. Traffic along HWY 41 & 49 will be impacted as a result of road closures on HWY 49. The fire continues to threaten power lines to the south of the incident, which supply power to Yosemite National Park. Firefighters on the ground as well as aircraft are actively working to contain and suppress the fire. CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 4 assumed command of the incident at 1000 hrs. from the Madera, Mariposa, Merced Unit. A community meeting will be held today Tuesday, July 18th at 1800 hrs (6 PM) in the auditorium at Mariposa County High School: 5074 Old Hwy N, Mariposa, CA 95338

Detwiller Fire in Mariposa County Explodes to 11,000 Acres

Mariposa, CA...The Detwiller Fire has exploded today to swell to over 11,000 acres. The latest incident information from 5:45 pm. The fire is burning near Detwiller Rd and Hunters Valley Rd, 2 miles east of Lake McClure. It was started July 16, 2017 3:56 pm. The CAL FIRE Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit is in charge of fighting the fire in Mariposa County. They are not listing any containment at this time and there has been 1 structure destroyed and 1 damaged

Now Crispy Brush Mower Deemed Cause of 50 Acre Quail Fire

Valley Springs, CA...Earlier CAL FIRE TCU released the following on the cause of this afternoon's fire. "#QuailFire [update] The vegetation fire remains 50 acres and is 55% contained near Quail Oaks Rd. and Oak Hill Dr. Valley Springs (Calaveras County) This fire was determined to be caused by equipment use and a citation has been issued for equipment causing a fire, not having firefighting tools within 25 feet and burning lands of another."

Foot Glove Wearing Man Charged For Pinecrest Cabin Fires

Pinecrest, CA...Just after 1 PM yesterday afternoon, the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office received a call from a Pinecrest area campground. The caller reported seeing a suspicious man walking through the campground wearing gloves on his feet.

Live Fire Training off of Wards Ferry Road Starting June 28th

San Andreas, CA...The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Tuolumne - Calaveras Unit will be conducting live fire training in Tuolumne County. Students from around the State will be taught the proper techniques to plan and conduct complex firing operations during wildland fire suppression. Techniques learned will be utilized during suppression efforts to starve an approaching wildland fire of available vegetation.

San Andreas – The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit (TCU) is pleased to welcome Emily Kilgore, Fire Prevention Specialist II, to the Unit. Emily comes to TCU from the CAL FIRE Santa Clara Unit where she worked as a Communications Operator in the Emergency Command Center. Prior to coming to work for CAL FIRE, Emily spent several years working as a Fire Prevention Technician on the Stanislaus National Forest.

Sonora, CA...The Tuolumne County Fire Department is proud to announce the graduation of five TCFD Volunteer Firefighters, one Mi Wuk Sugar Pine Fire District Volunteer Firefighter and two TCFD Fire Explorers from the Tuolumne County Regional Volunteer Firefighter Academy. County Fire held a small graduation ceremony on Friday night to recognize the dedication, sacrifice and hard work these eight individuals endured over the last five months. Attendees of the ceremony included the family and friends of the graduates, Supervisor Randy Hanvelt (District 2) and CAL FIRE/TCFD staff.

Bear Mountain Shaded Fuel Break Prescribed Burn On For Tomorrow

San Andreas, CA...The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is conducting a Prescribed Burn on the Bear Mountain Shaded Fuel Break, west of Angels Camp around the Fowler Peak Lookout. This burn will be approximately 80 acres in size and will reduce the fuel loading around the critical infrastructure sites that are on the mountain top. These sites service numerous Local, State and Federal agencies along with several Private Communication Companies.

Yosemite Area Soupbowl Prescribed Fire Update

Yosemite, CA...Yesterday evening at 1900 hours Yosemite Fire and Aviation started ignition on the Soupbowl Prescribed Fire Unit between the South Entrance and the community of Wawona. At 2100 hours operations were shut down due to mixed rain and snow. Burn conditions were good leading up to the weather event. 5-10 acres of blackline was complete along the Wawona Road (State Hwy 41 Extension).
